Hope SA Annual Events

HopeSAFoundation provides social development services, missionary work, humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts both nationally and internationally. We are committed to promoting sustainable, equitable and participatory development and social welfare through various initiatives.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual campaign that begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and runs through International Human Rights Day on 10 December.

Led by civil society, the campaign is supported by the United Nations through the Secretary General’s UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women initiative. This year, the UN marks the 16 Days under the theme “UNiTE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.

South Africa holds the shameful distinction of being one of the most unsafe places in the world to be a woman. We have amongst the highest rates of intimate partner violence, and recently released data from Statistics SA show that rape and sexual violence have become hyperendemic.
Women and girls are being abused, assaulted and murdered in our country every day – at
the hands of men.
It has been said that the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.
The South Africa we Want is a country where all its citizens are able to lead their lives of dignity and freedom, and where the vulnerable and marginalised are protected by our constitution and our Law.

Get involved: from amplifying the voices of survivors and activists to supporting women’s organizations and strengthening feminist movements, we can all act to empower survivors, reduce and prevent violence against women and girls, and protect women’s rights.

Hope SA Foundation Safer women drive works with education and training in GBV, in communities and shelters. We encourage you to attend our self-defence workshops and get involved in fundraisers for our Safer women kits. Our plan is to open a Hope shelter for women and children in 2013.

Sustainable FoodProgram:One of our primary programs is the sustainable food program, which aims to alleviate hunger by serving a minimum of 400 hot meals a day to children and unemployed households in impoverished areas across South Africa. In addition to our daily food drives, we distribute food hampers to sustain a family for up to a month.

Access to Clean Water: We prioritize providing access to clean drinking water and water solutions. We provide water tanks, filtration systems and other solutions to help communities access safe and clean water.

“Safer Women "Drive: Workshops conducted, and educational material provided to educate communities on the importance of ending gender-based violence (GBV) against women and girls. The foundation's Safer Women drive equips and empowers people to speak out against GBV and take steps to protect themselves. We provide more than 2000 safety kits yearly and educational material to shelters and communities we have adopted. Our short-term goal is to open a HopeSAShelter and to provide a safe and sustainable space for victims of GBV.

Disaster Relief Efforts: We play a crucial role in disaster relief response and work closely with the Department of Social Development. Our recent work includes the floods in KZN and Johannesburg, 2021 July unrest in KwaZulu-Natal, the Boksburg Tanker Explosion, Turkey and Syria Earthquake 2023 and informal settlement fires in KZN and Johannesburg. HopeSAFoundation provided emergency relief to support rescue and evacuation efforts, distributed essential supplies, food, water, clothing, mattresses, blankets set up temporary shelters for displaced individuals, provided medical supplies and psychological support to affected communities and supported long-term recovery efforts such as rebuilding infrastructure and livelihoods. We continue our work closely with affected areas for months after the disasters.

Other Initiatives: Back to SchoolDrive,WinterWarmthDrive, MandelaDay,Womens Month Campaign, Christmas HopeDrive andPaws4Hopewhich supports community-led animal shelters. HopeSAFoundation supports other NGOs and community-led organizations as we recognize the importance of collaboration to promote sustainability and make a lasting impact.
